I’m Cindy, and I enjoy sharing easy craft projects, easy recipes, and painting furniture. I have lived in Northern NJ my entire life and I love it. Today, I’m joining Donna from An Organized Season to welcome spring and share our home tours. Donna has incredible style and talent and I know you will enjoy her home.

What is French Country Style: Family Room?

Favorite Room Bliss: The French Farmhouse Great Room Perfect Balance

French Country Farmhouse style is a design aesthetic that combines the elegance of French style with the rustic charm of farmhouse decor. This style is inspired by the French countryside and emphasizes natural materials, wood beams, and a little bit of natural stone.  The wall color is often neutral tones that include pale blue, pale pink, and neutral colors. The countryside often inspires French country style and lavender is a must in our home all year.

Our home doesn’t have wood beams, however, we added a plaster ceiling medallion we found while searching flea markets and thrift stores. After adding this to our ceiling we add molding to add a rustic and elegant touch to this room.

European Farmhouse Style: Main Living Areas

It incorporates antique furniture, decorative items, and accent pieces like wicker baskets, an elegant light fixture, vintage doors, and throw pillows. To see a beautiful home filled with vintage doors visit Rachel. She has a new home that has an old home feel, visit her at The Ponds Farmhouse.

Antiques and vintage pieces from flea markets often play a role in the French country feel. Natural wood and paint give furniture texture and history. Add an intricate light fixture to a family room or over a dining room table. Incorporating furniture and decorative accents into French Country living homes is about making the main living areas have that cozy room vibe and a custom look.

What are French farmhouse colors?

The main living areas of French country homes usually are painted in neutral tones. Choose a wall color in pale yellows, pale grays, pale blues, pale pinks, and shades of off-white, and add elegance to any favorite room in the home.

Family Room/Great Room Our Favorite Room French Farmhouse Spring Tour

The great room is our favorite room, with its semi open floor plan with neutral tones and pale yellow wall color. The great room lets us enjoy our vintage pieces, in simple ways. It adds a welcoming vibe throughout our main living areas. Cheers to a new season and the change it brings and happy spring!

So, as we wander through each cozy room and chat about our spring decor, I’m excited to share lots of projects created over the last couple of years. I can’t wait to share all the details with you!

Changing Throw Pillows And Throw Blankets

New Season Transformations: Revitalize Your Favorite Room With Throw Pillows And Blankets

Enhance your spring decor in your favorite room by adding throw pillows for a pop of color. In our great room, we continue with our neutral tones adding throw pillows in shades of gray. Last year, I bought these ticking pillow covers and it’s my favorite thing to mix and match with the classic toile throw pillows.

Since it’s March in NJ we are still reaching for our cozy, heavy blankets to snuggle. We snuggle under blankets to watch movies, baseball, and a fire during chilly nights. These heavy blankets stay close during summer months too. The air conditioning is on nonstop during humid days and nights of the New Jersey summer season.

FINDING PIECES FOR FRENCH FARMHOUSE

Unlocking Elegance: Finding A Favorite Thing A Vintage Gem For A French Spring Home

In this room, the shelves in our bookcase are so much fun to decorate for each new season. This is filled with favorite things, antique books, and vintage pieces, adding a French country feel. Some pieces are from our old home. I discovered pieces for our new home at flea markets, our local thrift store, and my favorite Etsy shop. The top shelf has a female bust from Antique Farmhouse, she’s beautiful. I shared a reel on social media of me making the small wreath with moss. So guess what it’s made from, a curtain ring!

One day at the thrift store, I found my alabaster bird bath, a unique find with only one bird, but for $8, I’m not complaining. The same day I also picked up two plaster busts for $5 each. Are they old? Probably not, but they fit our European farmhouse style. This is a new home; however, we have lived here for a couple of years. Adding spring touches to our great room, these found pieces add a French Country feel.

Pro Trip: For those who enjoy this decor style, patience is key when hunting for vintage pieces. It may take a little bit of time to find some pieces that fit your decor style. Visit flea markets and the thrift store often to find pieces for your favorite room.

THE FAMILY ROOM IS A FAVORITE ROOM EUROPEAN FARMHOUSE STYLE

Cozy Room Unveiled: Our Favorite Room Family Room/Great Home European Farmhouse Style

Stepping into our great room from the kitchen area, the first thing you see is our bookcase with open shelves and coffee table. A French table we stumbled upon last fall on Facebook Marketplace adds to our French country living room.

What I love about our home is our kitchen cooking area has a wall to separate our great room. When we entertain all the messy dishes are hidden, so family and friends don’t have to see the mess.

On our coffee table is a wine barrel from Italy that I found at Home Goods in our old home. Can you believe it? I bought the faux greenery olive stems to add to our European style what do you think? I didn’t use these last year, silly me because they’re beautiful! The blue demijohn is a pretty shade of blue. This works now, I can leave it or add lilacs once they bloom later in spring. Oh how I love lilacs, the smell is amazing throughout our entire home. Then when August comes our hydrangeas, will be perfect and I love adding these dried natural elements to our home come fall.

Pro Tip: When adding faux flowers and faux greenery to glass vases, jars, and bottles cut the stems and add water. This adds a fresh flower look.

LOVE OF VINTAGE PIECES: CROWNS In FRENCH COUNTRY LIVING

Vintage Elegance: Crowns In French Country Living Decor

Adding spring touches to our family room/great room, the first thing is vintage dishes, a rare alabaster bird bath, and French antique books. Shakespeare’s sonnets from 1848, in their green color and pink books are an easy way to add a pop of color to spring decor. I have spoken about these before, they are a favorite thing and were my Father-in-law. I gave the hardcover books that are so much fun, a vintage look. This easy craft can be done in minutes. Follow the easy steps in a tutorial to add a vintage look to paperback books too. The family room allows a view of our dining room table and the front entry. With our floor plan, I make sure to maintain a cohesive look throughout our European farmhouse style home.

In our new home, my love of vintage pieces includes collecting crowns over the last couple of years. Adding antique doorknobs to a sugar bowl stays true to my thrift store addiction. It is a great way to welcome spring, character, and charm to the open shelves.

FAVORITE THING MOSS & FLOWERPOTS FRENCH COUNTRY LIVING

Nature Elements: My Favorite Thing Moss And Flowerpots

My favorite thing to add to our bookshelf for spring is moss balls. Moss says, spring in my alabaster bird bath. Vintage flower pots made using a lime wash fill a compote dish, and the books I gave a vintage look. This isn’t a lot of work and is an easy craft project. I share the easy steps, and everything needed so I hope you take a look. These are a great way to add the look of a vintage find to any home decor style. The best thing is there’s not a lot of additional cost with the lime washing.

I don’t know if this is the same where you live. Vintage flower pots are getting a little bit more difficult to find in NJ. The thrift store and flea markets were filled with flowerpots, not as much as in the last couple of years. Another favorite thing of mine is dried lavender as I mentioned above is added in different ways in today’s tour. It reminds me of the French countryside. I enjoy our shelves decorated this way because come summer I only need to make a few adjustments and is an easy way to make changes. A few fresh flowers will add a pop of color come summer, super simple.

OTHER SIDE OF THE ROOM TODAY’S TOUR

A Room’s Tale: A Favorite View On The Other Side In Today’s Tour

A favorite view on the other side of the room. bottles in a large wood crate filled with Chamomile for spring. These Chamomile look like fresh flowers, don’t you think? This is the third time I have ordered these and enjoy adding them to our home for spring. We stumbled upon the bottles last week at the thrift store for $1 each. This is a great find just in time for today’s tour. I love it when this happens!

The wreath hanging on the shutter features my favorite thing, moss, and lavender buds on a grapevine wreath. Natural materials are a favorite here at Cloches & Lavender. The best part is that natural materials come at minimal additional cost, they are FREE most times! So, visit our spring tour and fall tour from last year. See how I add natural materials and natural elements into our home in different ways for each new season.

ENTRY AND DINING ROOM FOR SPRING

Dining Room: Our European Farmhouse Dining Room Table

This brings us to our front entry, a cloche found a couple of years ago from Home Goods is center stage. A crown, with a bird’s nest made from natural materials is perfect for spring. It has sticks and leaves from our yard, along with an egg, dried lavender, and green books to welcome spring. These bird’s nests can be made in minutes with little additional cost.

For a French Country feel this space has a faux topiary, a cast iron urn with dried lavender, and a rabbit statue from Antique Farmhouse. The jelly beans won’t last long. This moss wreath I crafted a couple of years ago. It’s made with self-stick moss and sticks from the back year. See, I mentioned I enjoy natural elements because there’s no additional cost. Look at my fall tour from last year, you will see tons of natural elements and natural materials!

A French market basket filled with dried lavender and a basket filled with more faux flowers says spring. They add to the French Country feel of our home. Adding wicker baskets and a galvanized bucket is a great way to add texture to spring decor. Look for wicker baskets when visiting Home Goods. They have a great selection without a lot of additional cost when it comes to checkout.

Finishing Today’s Tour Dining Room With Neutral Tones

Dining In Full Bloom: Final Touches Of Today’s Tour Our Beautiful Home

Finishing today’s tour is our dining room and dining room table. An ironstone pitcher filled with faux greenery of olive branches adds to the European farmhouse style. This keeps a cohesive look in our main living areas. A wood riser, a satin ribbon, and a wreath made from faux greenery add the perfect touch to our spring decor. I made two moss topiaries last year to add to the country living feel of our home. I added fake dirt to them. It takes three minutes to make and gives faux flowers a realistic and custom look. They add more, natural elements and beauty to our dining room table. This is my biggest post ever, so take a look.

Again this can stay through summer. I’m sure I’ll add fresh flowers as our lilacs and hydrangeas bloom. The best part, I make sure to add hydrangeas at the perfect time so they can fill our table for fall.

Last week, I shared the wreath and it’s a great way to welcome spring. Can you believe the moss wreath in the middle of the grapevine wreath is a pool noodle? Read the easy steps so visit the craft store, Dollar Tree, and the Dollar store. So, grab your craft supplies to make this easy craft project in 10 minutes!
