Wreath Passion

If you have been following Cloches & Lavender, you already know about my passion for creating a wreath for the front door or a farmhouse wreath to add to our home. This started when I was young, and I have always been drawn to using natural elements in my wreath designs. This particular wreath showcases my love for a rustic floral wreath with a farmhouse look.

One of my favorite ways to hang wreaths is by using delicate lace, which adds a charming and elegant touch and farmhouse look to a spring wreath. When you visit our home, you’ll notice that I often mix a European inspired wreath with hints of lavender for a soft pop of color and various green hues.

About Lavender and Wreath Making

As I walk into my craft room, I see a blank wreath form and an empty grapevine base, patiently waiting for me to transform them into a simple yet exquisite accent for our home. I love using artificial materials such as vibrant lemons for a burst of color mixed with faux lavender to create a summertime wreath to add to our front door.

So, let’s embark on this wreath-making together and create a stunning faux lemon boxwood summer wreath with lemon leaves. During the warmest days, this cheerful wreath will brighten up any room or front door.

Are Lemons Only for Summer?

Lemons are not limited to hot summer days. They can be a great addition to a spring wreath and summer decor. The sunny and vibrant yellow of lemons brings a cheerful addition to any room.

In addition to using lemons as decorative accents, incorporate their clean fresh scent into your home using lemon-scented essential oil in a diffuser. Imagine walking into your home, especially during the warmest season, and being greeted with the scent of lemon. Sunny yellow lemons with their vibrant yellow color make a delightful display for spring and summer decor in any spot in our homes.

So, whether you choose to use sunny yellow lemons as decorative elements or infuse your home with their fresh scent, they can be enjoyed throughout the year, bringing a touch of freshness to your living spaces.

This year I plan on making a hydrangea wreath for the fall.  I have wanted to make one for a long time so stay tuned for this fall wreath!

How long do lemons last?

Fresh lemons typically stay fresh for up to a week when displayed.

However, faux lemons have an incredibly realistic look. Artificial lemons are an excellent investment. They can be used for year after year, saving you money.  The advantage of using lifelike lemons is that they retain their realistic look for a long time. They are versatile and cost-effective choices for decorating your home.

So, whether you choose fresh or artificial lemons, both options provide a simple yet exquisite accent that adds a touch of natural elegance to your space.

Add Elegance to the Home with Fall Wreath with Hydrangeas

This year I plan on making a hydrangea wreath for a fall wreath. However, they work for spring and summer decor too. I have wanted to make a hydrangea wreath for a long time so stay tuned for this during fall!  Fingers crossed my deer repellant keeps them away from my hydrangeas. So far, so good.

Lemons a Delightful Display: Grapevine Base Moss and Bright Lifelike Lemons

Lemons can be displayed in a variety of elegant ways. One option is to place them in a dough bowl or a glass jar, transforming them from produce into a delightful display. Vibrant lemons and the green hues of a small boxwood wreath are a cheerful addition to any home, especially in the warmest season.  Don’t have boxwood no problem, add moss balls, sheet moss, and a grapevine base with a wreath or grapevine balls. This adds a rustic farmhouse look with the vibrant yellow color of lemons for the hot summer days. The best part is that this display will last a long time and will work from late summer until early fall.

Displaying Lemons with Fresh Flowers

When displaying lemons with fresh flowers the lifespan of flowers will decrease due to the acidity of the lemons.

To prevent direct contact between the lemon slices and the fresh flowers, place a smaller glass cylinder or vase between them. This acts as a barrier, keeping the lemon slices securely in place. Ensuring the flowers remain unaffected by the lemon’s acidity. This way, you can enjoy the contrast between the vibrant lemons and the flowers.

Craft Supplies Needed:

  • hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • faux boxwood wreath
  • artificial lemons
  • faux lavender or flowers of your choice
  • lemon leaves
  • wire cutters

Step 1: Placement of Artificisl Lemons: Faux Boxwood Wreath a Summertime Wreath

Determine where to position the artificial lemons on the faux boxwood wreath. I added my sunny yellow lemons in groups of three. Odd numbers when making a wreath for home decorating work best.

Step 2: Glue or Drill Holes

If you’re using craft or florist wire, carefully drill a small hole on either side of each lemon. The hole should be just wide enough to add the wire. This step allows you to reuse the wreath for future projects

When using the hot glue gun carefully add glue to each lemon and place it on the wreath.

Tip: If this is hanging on a front door that gets a lot of sun, I recommend using florist wire to attach the lemons to the wreath. The heat from the sun will cause the hot glue to soften and the lemons may fall off. See tips on how to add wire in the next step.

Step 3:  Insert Florist Wire

Cut pieces of florist wire long enough to wrap around the faux boxwood wreath. Insert one end of the wire through the drilled hole in each lemon, leaving the wire sticking out on the other side. If you prefer using a hot glue gun, skip this step.

Important Tip: If your front door gets a lot of sun, hot glue may not work. The sun will cause the glue to soften and the lemons will fall off. So consider this before putting your summer wreath together.

Step 4:  Attach Lemons

Add each lemon with the wire (hot glue) and position it onto the faux boxwood wreath. If using wire, push the end of the into the wreath. Next, add the other end of the wire through the faux boxwood wreath and twist the ends of the wire to attach. Twist the florist wire tightly to secure the lemons. If using hot glue, apply a small amount of glue to the back of each lemon press onto the wreath, and hold for a moment to set.

Step 5:  Add Green Leaves or Lemon Leaves

To add to the realistic look of the wreath, incorporate green leaves or lemon leaves. Choose areas on the wreath where you want to add these elements, considering an even distribution.

Step 6:  Secure Green Leaves

Using florist wire or a hot glue gun, attach the stems of the leaves to the wreath. If using wire, wrap it around the stems and secure it tightly. If using a hot glue gun, apply a small amount of glue to the stems and press them firmly onto the wreath form. Hold until the glue sets.

Step 7: Faux Lavender or Faux Flowers

I added artificial materials such as lavender sprigs into my summertime wreath. Lavender adds a simple yet exquisite accent to the wreath. Choose areas on the wreath where you want to add these artificial materials spread evenly.

Step 8:  Secure the Flowers

Using florist wire or a hot glue gun, attach the stems of the faux lavender sprigs to the wreath form. Follow the same instructions as in step 7.

Step back and assess the wreath’s overall look. Adjust the lemons, artificial foliage, and lavender, ensuring a balanced look on your finished farmhouse wreath. Add a decorative burlap bow or hang it from a wreath hanger as I do. Either way, this is a perfect summer wreath to add to your home or front porch!
