How I Learned This Tip To Melt Chocolate?
When I began baking and melting chocolate, I did learn a trick from Debbie Fields. Yes, Debbie Fields. Watching her show and baking with my mom has been a great stepping stone for my love of baking.
She always advises that if you don’t have melting chocolate wafers, add a bit of vegetable oil to the chocolate chips or in this case, white chocolate, to make it smooth.
This tip has worked like a charm for years. Also, it helps because I don’t temper chocolate. So, the vegetable oil adds a sheen to the chocolate or white chocolate. Also, because I don’t temper the chocolate, it prevents it from melting too quickly and scalding.
Equipment Needed:
- Wilton candy Melt (HERE)
- Wilton Candy Decorating Dipping Tool Set (HERE)
- microwave-safe bowl
- nonstick aluminum foil
- baking sheet – MY FAVORITE – (HERE)
- small baking pan, piece of aluminum foil, or cake pan (roasting macadamia nuts)
- silicone spatula – MY FAVORITE – (HERE)
- platter or small bowls, or a medium bowl for serving
Ingredients:
- White chocolate candy melts, milk chocolate candy melts, or dark chocolate
- White chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips, or dark chocolate chips
- 1 tsp coconut, sunflower, or vegetable oil (depending on the amount of chocolate)
- macadamia nuts
Step 1: Roasting Nuts on a Baking Sheet for Extra Flavor
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees f.
Add the macadamia nut to a foil-lined small baking pan, baking sheet, cookie sheet, or cake pan.
Toast nuts for 10 minutes. After the timer goes off, check the nuts to make sure they have browned slightly. Stir them and add them bake to the hot oven and roast for 5 more minutes. You will notice the smell of the toasted nuts, and this means they are finished.
Tip: Why brown nuts? Roasting nuts before adding them to desserts, salads, or dinner intensifies the flavor of the nut, adding more flavor. When adding any nuts to a dessert, salad, or meal, always roast nuts.
Step 2: Melting Creamy White Chocolate And Scorching
Tip: When melting white chocolate, it can be a bit fussier than melting regular chocolate. Never let water near chocolate. It will seize immediately!
Why? Because white chocolate has a lower melting point. This means white chocolate melts faster than milk or dark chocolate. You must keep an eye on it to prevent scorching if using a double boiler.
