6 Lantern Decor Ideas
Now is a great time to speak about 6 lantern decor ideas.
Because the seasons are going to be changing, this is the time we begin thinking about adding warmer touches to our homes.
The cooler temperatures will be here soon making a fun time to add some of my all-time favorite ideas as filler for lantern decor ideas.
Today we have plenty of options to choose from which makes these a beautiful touch, especially, for fall decor.
There are so many choices from small lanterns, star lanterns, Moroccan style, skinny lanterns, and large lanterns to name a few.
I love to add these to an outdoor space, especially near our front door and our front steps for seasonal decor. When adding these to outdoor areas it’s particularly important to make sure you are purchasing an outdoor lantern. Also, make sure if there’s a candle it’s suited for the outdoors too.
As an example, we have a large and smaller black lantern for our front porch. The great thing is these came with built-in flameless candles and add warmth and light to this area of our home. I especially love the soft glow in the evenings when our porch is styled with pumpkins and greens for the holiday season.
So, now, let’s see some great inspiration and ideas to add these to our homes.

Adding Lantern Decor Ideas Inside the Home
Using These Inside the Home
Anything that gives you joy will work inside your favorite lanterns.
For instance, how about adding different shapes and different heights to a dining room table as a centerpiece? These can be filled with a variety of small color pumpkins, gourds, or white pumpkins with battery-operated fairy lights to add soft light.
I am sharing one of my favorites of all time. I’ll give you a hint, they smell amazing and are easy to make, yep you guessed it, dried orange slices. I share an easy way to make these with step-by-step instructions.
Idea 1: Dried Oranges are Perfect for Autumn and Winter
Use Dried Oranges to Fill These and Add Subtle Color
Adding these looks so pretty inside a glass lantern and is perfect for fall through the holiday season especially because these smell amazing when walking by them sitting on a table to greet guests.Â
Idea 2: Add Lighting to a China Cabinet with Jars
Adding Light to a Cabinet Using Jars
This year for example I decided to add mason jars to our china cabinet in our kitchen. A mason jar is the easiest way to add light and warmth. I simply filled these with popcorn kernels in one of my favorite color palettes and added votive battery-operated candles to the top. This is such an easy way to add lighting to a cabinet or a corner in the home.
Idea 3: Adding a Candle for Warmth
A Battery-Operated Candle Adds Warmth and Coziness
Now, how about using a pair of lanterns in different sizes adding a battery-operated pillar candle and sprinkling dried orange slices? It takes minutes and packs a punch in the home.
The smaller wood lantern looks pretty filled with an assortment of natural and painted walnuts in the shell along with smaller pinecones which adds a natural look and a special touch.
Idea 4: Using a Large Church Lantern Filled with Nature
A Large Church Piece in the Foyer Overflowing with Nature
I have been eyeing this beautiful rustic church lantern for a long time. I finally made the purchase and I’m thrilled that I added this to my collection.
This is the perfect size for a floor lantern. Filling this with pillar candles in various sizes adds a touch of romance and warmth. The addition of wood slabs paired with pine cones, walnuts, and a small pumpkin keeps my love of using nature as much as possible in our home.
Idea 5: Adding a Sentimental Piece to Lanterns
Use A Crown Around a Bottle Brush Tree for Christmas
Adding a bottle brush tree makes this crown look like a tree skirt, doesn’t it?
Be creative with pieces already in your home. As an example, the baby shoe is bronzed by my parents and holds a small bottle brush tree for a festive look. There’s something very special when adding a piece from a family member. Pieces don’t always have to be purchased shop your home first to create a beautiful display.
Idea 6: Adding a Copper Piece to a Fireplace
Adding Copper to the Hearth Filled with a Candle
Remember lanterns don’t take up a lot of space in your home. And they can be added to a coffee table and a favorite place on the fireplace hearth.
Thie metal lantern in copper adds a nice warmth to the hearth in our great room with a large candle and dried artichokes. The addition of the large wood acorn and grapevine keeps the natural textures in our home.

First Project Idea: Make A Garland
By the way, I recently shared steps to make an easy orange and fruit garland. It’s a great project for the entire family.
Second Project Idea
I share how to add dried whole clementine and orange slices to your décor seasonally. This is a great way to add warmth, scent, and a pop of color with seasonal materials such as colorful leaves and fall flowers.
