Adding Vintage with Flowers

Adding vintage and thrifted pieces to a garden or pots on a deck adds tons of character and interest. Pots on a deck make it feel more like a room.

I added new paint to pots last year. This year, I was happy to find vintage aged galvanized tubs to use for dahlias. Being aged by nature makes them an accessory.

Adding Flowers to Pieces to Make Pretty

Dahlias are flowers I have admired for quite some time. After doing research, I was happy to discover these do well in pots. I found tubers I felt would be manageable in these large tubs. After purchasing six Dahlia tubers online, they’re thriving in what I refer to as Dahlia corner, these plants do best with eight hours of sun.

Kelly from The Tattered Pew shared a vintage boiler pot in her garden, it became a hope I would find one.   Fate brought ours to us from our favorite thrift store in NJ and safe curbside pickup we brought her home.

I spotted this great piece on Instagram from a shop close to our home. Hubby picked it up curbside safely and brought this home to add to our deck. The scrolls, patina and hanging basket adds more charm in this spot filled with annuals.

A few other pieces added this year were found via Instagram from the same shop. The piece leaning against the deck came home in green.

Not working for our colors on the deck, I added Antique white paint allowing snippets of green to show.

I added a piece of gate I found years ago when antiquing. Adding a top coat to seal in its pretty patina adds whimsy to the aged galvanized tub filled with more annuals.

Adding pieces like these brings an extra touch to potted plants. Give pieces you find a try; adding to your garden, deck and home to make it have more of a garden feel.

  3. So pretty!!! I love your porch garden, Cindy!!! I have a big 6′ piece of fencing I found in Waco, TX back a couple of years ago that I used around our deck when we were still in our trailer. It’s waiting to pair with two wood porch posts to go out cemented into the yard as a separator once we know where we are going to build the new shed, move the current metal one, etc. Long term project ~ just waiting for $$ (as always!). 😉

Happy to feature your lovely post at tonight’s SYS #264, thank you,
    Barb 🙂
