French Cottage Christmas Porch

If you saw the hop you may remember my basket display on my front door.

Today I’m sharing our French Cottage porch with rustic, elegant touches.  For Christmas I love using real greens in our urns and baskets.  When family and friends come to visit they are greeted with a porch filled with the smell of fresh greens.

Our urns next to our front door sit on a pedestal which makes a grand statement.  They are very European and add a wonderful touch to our French/French Cottage.  Filled with an assortment of greens and small cuttings of birch logs they give that rustic touch for the season.  Adding the iced branches gives the arrangement some height and a touch of sparkle.

Please ignore the rust mark.  My olive bucket made it in fall.  The water is off and will get taken care of next spring.

The other urn next to my large lantern.

The large basket is filled with an assortment of greens, twigs and birch logs.  I hung an empty grapevine wreath on the edge to add more interest and texture.  I found this basket at a Thrift store I visit and did a wash of  white paint to give it a French look.

My smaller lantern looks right at home.

Above is my sled from when I was young with birch sticks I had leftover, I think it gives the look of walking sticks.

As you can see I added more birch logs with the red lantern, greens and vintage ice skates.

Below I will show the candles lit up at night on the porch..  They add a warm and cozy feel.

  1. Hi Cindy
Your porch looks really pretty. I love it all. I love the basket and all the natural greens and the lanterns are amazing. How pretty.

  2. Your front porch looks lovely! I have one of those pedestals in my garden with an armillary sitting on it!

  3. The color combination of your home has always been my favorite. When I got married I painted the brick on our first house taupe with white trim and added black shutters. Your porch brings back such good memories of that house. But our porchette never looked as beautiful as yours. I love those urns! What a grand statement indeed! There’s nothing like fresh greens either. Glad I got to see this. Merry Christmas!

  4. Oh Cindy this is fabulous! I am so inspired now. I have some similar white urns and I have been wondering how to fill them. Yours are so wonderful. I love that basket filled with winter goodies. The look will last past Christmas! I do hope you will link up this post at TFT!

  5. It’s all just lovely Cyn! Perfectly suited to your lovely home with beautiful natural touches and not over the top glitzy. I’m hard pressed to pick a fav but your childhood sled is up there. How nice that you still have it.
