September in the Kitchen

September for me is about getting ready for dried hydrangeas.  When I planted them my plan was always to dry as many as I could for our décor.  \I love adding them for early fall and spring.  Many will stay throughout the season and some will be replaced in October.

Don’t these look pretty in this antique copper jardinière with its patina?  Placed on a piece from a wine crate not to scratch the table.

I thought I would share a few close ups as well.

This sits underneath a wall in our kitchen that I think has pretty French Country touches with the transferware dishes, lambs head and pieces of gate we have had for years.

Adding real walnuts is a wonderful fall addition to the house.  It reminds me of cooler days coming and family visiting.

The piece holding the walnuts is new from a thrift/antique store I visit.  I saw it on their Instagram feed and called right away and they held it for me until the weekend for John to drive to retrieve it, love my husband!  It’s cast iron and has rusty patina on it but to me that’s the charm.   When I saw the piece I knew it would look great holding walnuts to usher in fall.

Fall also brings my love for lavender dried in pitchers and baskets scattered around the house.  Here it fills a pitcher in an antique French crate on top of a grain sac runner for texture.with a large wooden acorn placed on an iron cloche base with a stack of antique dishes.

You can see the lavender in background which is in a French basket received as a gift a few years back.  It still works here from my summer post.

Acorns dried from years of searching in our old yard are in different areas of our home which I will share at a later date.  These pieces make everything come alive for fall.

Mums and pumpkins will show up in the kitchen as the season moves along.  Too soon in NJ and as I said I want to enjoy this beauty for a time yet.

In another area of our kitchen I kept it simple and used an antique mini tureen to hold more dried hydrangeas.  It sits beside an antique seltzer bottle and a small vintage gilded picture.

This picture could be hung but I wanted to see it often because I love it.  It’s a new p from a new Etsy shop I discovered HERE  The shop owner Jennifer is wonderful to work with and has many pretty items.

I haven’t shown this spot in our kitchen because of the microwave.  Why, I have no clue?  Everyone has microwaves and appliances.  This has a variety of antique pieces I have had for many years.  I love the antique tureen filled with more hydrangeas.  This piece has pretty details.

The homemade relish crock is a piece from Nora Murphy’s Hunt Club collection and is a replica.

  1. I love all of your fall touches, Cindy. Dried hydrangeas have always been a favorite of mine. xo Laura

  2. I love the hydrangeas. Unfortunately, my bushes didn’t do well this year. They’re not getting enough sun. So no dried hydrangea blooms for me. Great find on that rusty cast iron piece ~ and kudos to your hubby for picking it up for you!

  3. This is all so gorgeous! I hope you will come over and link up at All About Home! The party is open Monday at 7:00-Thurs. at midnight.

You have so many gorgeous finds. I love the hyrdrangeas in the copper.

  4. I love hydrangeas, fresh and dried! Alas, my hubby detests the dried ones because they make such a mess. I know a few guys who feel the same way about them. Pity! A friend always brings me a bag full of dried every Fall and I’m looking forward to it. Hubby isn’t. 😉 I love all your touches although I’m not ready for Fall yet. I kind of feel like I missed summer this year. That lamb’s head is adorable surrounded by the red plates! Thanks for your visit and I hope you’re keeping well. Joy to you…Sandi

  5. You have some beautiful vintage pieces! To me all one needs to decorate for Fall is using dried Hydrangeas for a natural earthy look. I live the brown and white vintage tureen! I have several pieces of my Mom’s copper and never shared since it’s not polished, so i was happy to see yours have their natural patina. Love that piece! Now I’ll feel more comfortable using mine!

    1. Oh I say patina shows love Cathy. Hydrangeas are the best and I have them everywhere this year because I can’t get enough. They add softness from nature. I love the tureen.

Now that I’m stronger I am able to do all the things I’ve wanted to do.

  6. Love how you add the hydrangeas to your display shelves. I cannot wait to see more.
    Happy Fall,
    Kippi
