Organizing A Craft Closet Easily

Hello all, today I’m talking about organizing a craft closet.

Today is our first DIY Challenge of the new year, hosted by Terrie from Decorate and More with Tip. Today’s all about organizing.

If you are coming from Blue Sky at Home welcome and I hope you enjoyed Carol’s post.

A craft room being organized is important for a blogger. So today, I’m sharing organizing my craft closet.

I took this picture before I began organizing.

First, I purchased storage containers in two depths from Walmart.

Next, I emptied the closet and sorted items. Items I no longer use will be tossed or taken to Goodwill.

In the end, I find this works best when organizing a craft room, kitchen cabinets, closets and pantries.

Let’s Begin Organizing a Craft Closet by Filling the Bins

For instance, clear bins work best for storage because I can immediately see what’s inside. This is especially helpful when crafting.

Meanwhile, I had bought garlands to decorate for different seasons, and they have been placed in bins and on a shelf.

Also flowers I had bought for different seasons are in there own bins. Besides having the flowers separate for seasons makes decorating easy for any season. Also, a lazy Suzan I use for crafting round items found a spot.

Afterward, I sorted mosses, specifically, green moss and various Spanish mosses. As a result of having extra bins on the smaller side they are perfect to keep the mosses neat and accessible.

Additionally, wreath and Styrofoam I have are also in bins.

Dried rosebuds, rose pieces and dried chamomile I have are in Mason jars.

Lastly, boards I use for painting are between the shelves and easy to grab for projects.

  1. Cindy,
I went through my craft supplies when we moved a year and a half ago, then again last January and I need to do it once again! I will say that I purchased open topped bins last year, but think that the bins with lids may be a much better option. Thanks for the inspiration!

  2. Clear plastic bins are perfect for storing craft supplies. I bet you feel great after organizing your craft closet. I love a neat space.

  3. I use those clear totes all the time. They are easy to see what I stored into them. Your closet looks so nice an neat. The before picture I can relate to it, 🙂 Mine looks like that most of the time after a project. ha!

  4. Well because I have so many different kinds of crafts that I do– I would need maybe 12 of those closets!!! My craft area in the basement needs so much help. I make little bits of progress, but I really just hardly know where to put what– and I like being organized. I will try to use some of your tips!

  5. Your organization of crafty things is wonderful Cindy. Since we are all stay at home I know it must feel good to get things organized and know where all your pieces are. Love this. Happy Wednesday. xoxo

  6. Love your ideas on organizing tote containers, Cindy! Your craft closet looks awesome! You might have noticed the picture of my tote containers in my post. I could use lots of help! I’ve always tried to put like items together, but my messiness gets the best of me!

  7. Cindy, I am going to show this to my daughter. She loves to paint, and her supplies are a disorganized mess! Hopefully, this will inspire her. Thanks for sharing! Enjoy your day, sweet friend!

  8. Oh, I am jealous of your craft space, especially in its “after” state. I have a few places where I keep my supplies, but a large closet sounds dreamy! Take care!!

  9. Love this transformation, Cindy, this looks so good! I love how you organized and categorized everything. I definitely need to do this with my space in the garage. It’s bananas! Hugs, CoCo

  10. That is exactly what I have been doing for a solid two weeks. Sorting through craft stuff and materials-some of which are 30 years old. Yours looks great. I could probably sort even more but at least it is organized until I figure out what I really want to do for crafting. I did give away my paper crafting supplies. I had a ton of them and my daughter was thrilled to get them. xo Diana
