Instructions

  • Step 1: Prep Your Apples Right: Tips for Perfectly Fresh and Flavorful Microwave Applesauce
Slice, peel, and core apples. Most apples will last 4-6 weeks in the fridge. Once cut, apples will brown quickly. This is why I add lemon juice to this easy microwave applesauce recipe in just minutes!
Place sliced apples, room-temperature water (or apple cider), and lemon juice in a microwave-safe bowl. Use a wooden spoon to combine apples with the lemon juice and water (apple cider)
Cover the 2-quart casserole dish with plastic wrap or wax paper. Add the casserole dish to the microwave oven.  Cook on full power for 12 minutes. If you want chunky applesauce, don't reduce the cooking time. Carefully remove the microwave-safe bowl, it will be hot. Wear oven mitts or use a dishtowel to remove it from the microwave.
Cindy's Apple Cider Note: In the ingredients picture the measuring cup is full because I was using the rest of the apple cider for another recipe. I don't want you to wonder why there's more in the measuring cup. 1/2 a cup is all you need!
  • Step 2: Blend It Up: Create Smooth Applesauce or Chunky with Just a Few Simple Steps
Pour the cooked apples into a blender, or food processor, or use an immersion blender. Add high-quality ground cinnamon to taste. Set your food processor, immersion blender, or blender on high power to create cinnamon applesauce creamy and smooth applesauce. If you want chunky applesaucek,, don't blend the cooked apples at full power and blend for less time.
After removing the dish of apples from the microwave, simply add them to a blender and add cinnamon. Set the blender on puree and blend. If you don't have a puree setting, set the blender on the highest speed. This is what makes this applesauce thick and smooth.
Pour the homemade applesauce into an airtight container. Opened homemade applesauce is best eaten within 7 to 10 days. Always use a clean spoon, no double-dipping!
