Equipment

  • 1 Microwave oven
  • 1 2-quart microwave-safe dish  or 2-quart microwave-safe bowl
  • 1 Blender, potato masher, food processor, or an immersion blender
  • 1 Sheet of Plastic wrap  or wax paper to cover the 2-quart casserole microwave-safe
  • 1 Apple peeler
  • 1 Apple core
  • 1 knife
  • 1 liquid measuring cup
  • 1 ½ tbsp measuring spoon
  • 1 Wooden spoon or large spoon
  • 1 airtight container

Ingredients

  • 6 cups Peeled, cored, and sliced apples (approximately 9 medium apples depending on the size)
  • 1/2 cup Room temperature water I used 1/2 of a cup of apple cider
  • 1/2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 High-quality ground cinnamon to taste

Instructions

  • Step 1: Prep Your Apples Right

Wash, dry, peel, and slice and core apples.  Most apples will last 4-6 weeks in the fridge. Once cut, apples will brown quickly. I add lemon juice to this easy 3-ingredient microwave applesauce recipe to keep the apples bright!
Place sliced apples, room-temperature water (or apple cider), and lemon juice in a microwave-safe bowl. Use a wooden spoon or a large spoon to combine apples with the lemon juice and water or apple cider.
Cover the 2-quart casserole dish with plastic wrap or wax paper. Add the casserole dish to the microwave oven. Cook on full power for 12 minutes. Carefully remove the microwave-safe bowl; it will be hot. Wear oven mitts or use a dishtowel to remove it from the microwave.
  • Step 2: Smooth Applesauce or Chunky with Just a Few Simple Steps

Pour the cooked apples into a blender, food processor, or use an immersion blender. Add high-quality ground cinnamon to taste. Blend until you have smooth applesauce with yummy cinnamon flavor. For chunky applesauce, don't blend the cooked apples at full power. Blend for less time until you reach the preferred texture.
After removing the dish of apples from the microwave, add them to a blender and add cinnamon. Set the blender to puree and blend.   If you don't have a puree setting, set the blender on the highest speed you can.  This is what makes this applesauce thick and smooth.
Pour the homemade applesauce into an airtight container. Opened homemade applesauce is best eaten within 7 to 10 days. Always use a clean spoon, no double-dipping!
