Do you enjoy a  delicious breakfast? I do, breakfast is my favorite meal. Especially if it's our  crunchy French toast recipe, covered with warm  maple syrup  and  cornflake crumbs. The smell of warm  vanilla extract  in the  egg mixture  and  melted butter  makes a  slice of bread  golden brown. Equipment

  • 1 Large skillet or nonstick skillet
  • 1 Pie plate or shallow dish or shallow bowl
  • 1 food processor optional
  • 1 Rolling Pin optional
  • 1 tsp. measuring spoon
  • 1/2 tsp. measuring spoon
  • 1 glass measuring cup
  • 1 spatula
  • 1 whisk or fork
  • 1 ziploc plastic bag optional

Ingredients
  

  • 6 slices 6 slices -  White Bread, Texas  Toast  or  Brioche  Bread 1 inch thick bread is best
  • 4 cups of cornflakes - fine crumbs fresh cornflake cereal is best
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg optional
  • 3 tbsps. butter
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1/2 cup whole milk or half and half
  • 1 syrup

Instructions
 

  • Step 1: How to Make This  Crispy French Toast
    Place 4  cups of cornflakes  in a  food processor  to make  fine crumbs. Add the crushed  corn flakes  and 1 tsp. cinnamon to a  shallow dish  or  pie plate  and combine. Set aside.
    Cindy's Note: If you don't have a  food processor. Place your  corn flakes  in a plastic bag. Use a  rolling pin  to crush  corn flakes  into  fine crumbs.
  • Step 2: Whip Up the Egg for the  Best French Toast
    In a  pie plate  or  shallow dish,  combine eggs,  vanilla extract, and milk and whisk until the  egg mixture  is airy and light.
  • Step 3: How to Turn  Bread Slices  into a  Delicious Breakfast
    Remove bread from  egg batter  and gently press each  slice of bread  into  corn flakes. Completely covering the  bread slices  with  cornflake cereal  crumbs.
    Working with one  slice of bread  at a time, dip each piece of bread into the  egg mixture. Remove the bread from the  egg batter  and let the excess egg drip off into the  shallow dish. Place a  large skillet  or your  nonstick skillet  over  medium heat. Continue this process with the  remaining slices  of bread. I find it best to push the  cornflake mixture  onto the bread.
  • Step 4: Cook Your  Cornflake Crusted French Toast Recipe
    Add one tablespoon of butter to coat the bottom of your  large skillet.  Cook each  slice of bread  until  golden brown. Repeat the process with the remaining  melted butter, vegetable oil and  white bread.
    Cindy's Tip: You can place your prepared cornflake French toast on a large sheet tray until ready to cook. Push the excess bread crumbs to the side while cooking the slices of bread. You don't want burnt crumbs on your  bread slices. This is a  common mistake  with cornflake French toast.
    Serve this  crunchy French toast recipe  with warm  maple syrup, slices of butter, or your  favorite toppings.
    Cindy's Syrup Tip: Heat the  syrup  in the microwave for one minute. I add a ¼ teaspoon of  vanilla extract. It takes this  easy recipe  to the next level.
