Updated Deer

Hello all, today I’m sharing updated deer. If you have been following Cloches & Lavender for awhile you know I love upcycling pieces with paint. If you are new, welcome and I hope you follow along.

My updated deer project came at the perfect time.  It’s Thrift Store Challenge day hosted by Emily from Le Cultivateur and Tara from Stilettos and Shiplap.

Thrift Store Challenge can be anything from a thrift store, pieces you have at home and want to update or something you find curbside. What makes this especially fun, is to be creative and what blogger doesn’t enjoy that, right!

As a result of having these deer for many years I decided updating the deer is a great idea. However, being old and a bit dated I think updating with a pant treatment will give them new life.

Let’s Begin Updating Deer with Paint

Using ASCP Old white watered down a bit and using with two brushes. This is especially important doing a wash. A brush for the paint and dry brush is important for moving the pant around. By the way, I decided to use this technique because I wanted the silver to show through to add an aged look. Also, with the curves and antlers it’s an easier process.

After adding the paint it’s also important to let the paint dry overnight. This allows the paint to dry well and cure.

Next, I used clear together with dark wax to add an antique appearance. This is a great way to add character.

Lastly, I added a light coat of Artisan Enhancement and I grab this most of the time.  Because a light coat of this works as a sealer it lasts a long time.

What do you think? Updated deer with paint was thrifty, fun and gave pieces new life. I’m loving the look of my updated deer.

The gilded and natural walnuts add elegance and rustic elements .  I did this in a Fall Grapevine Citrus Wreath that may interest you.  The pinecones also add wonderful texture.

It looks especially pretty hanging from an antique shutter with lace ribbon.  In addition to the sign I hung these beautiful bells.

I started decorating for Christmas yesterday. First time I have ever done it before Thanksgiving. Just needed a bit of light and bright this year. xo Diana

  5. These look AMAZING Cindy! I’ve never tried the 2 brush technique but it seems like a game changer. I’m definitely going to try that for my next project. I love this transformation so much. Hugs, CoCo
