Fall Snippets and a Giveaway!!!

Yes, that’s right, showing fall snippets and a GIVEAWAY!!

On my Instagram page I mentioned I bought Nora Murphy’s book.

First, fall weather has shown itself today with wonderful temperatures, cool breezes and sunshine.

Notice the wooden acorn?  The acorn branch preserved in an old piece of crackled glass that has been in my life for ages.

These pieces hold special places in my heart.  The glass was my mom’s which means so much to me.  It reminds me how lucky I was to have her for a mom who loved her family above all.  Great memories.

For me the beginning of fall always says acorns.  I have a love of these little gifts Mother Nature gave us at our old home.  Living there for twenty years and making the decision to downsize I knew I had to bring these beauties with me.

We moved 13 minutes down from our old place.  My bestie Audrey still lives there and she loves acorns.  So what to do, put her to task.  Many know about my MS.  Being in the mountains was not safe for me to walk outdoors anymore.

Audrey is the best hunter for acorns.  The oak trees up there give us plenty of acorns.  The squirrels and chipmunks harvest these for the winter.

At times they have dropped them on our heads over the years.  It was a super harvest that year.  Collecting began, then washing and baking took place before spraying with coats of polyurethane.

Even small twigs with acorns still intact were found.  Look at the beauty in the cradle where a butter knife should be held.  I purchased the antique butter dish weeks ago at a great price.  I knew acorns would fill the dish  from older days that have seen it’s beauty on a table with families enjoying meals together.

Apples that are crisp is a wonderful beginning of the season.  A deep pink votive with candlelight to give the sign cozy days are ahead.

Now, time for the Giveaway.  I inadvertently purchased another copy of Nora Murphy’s book.  This book is fantastic.  She takes you on her journey of her beautiful home My Country House.

This book also takes you to other beautiful homes and blogs.  One is in the Mountains, the Sea, the City and the Woods.

Every story speaks about how they discovered their own style and decorating beauty.  This will not disappoint.

To enter, follow my blog, Instagram page and leave a comment about wanting this book.  I will have John, my husband pick a name out of a hat.  You will have until October 4th to enter.

Have a wonderful day and I hope you’re enjoying some Fall.

Hello, my name is Cindy and welcome to Cloches & Lavender. I enjoy making our house a home with antiques and thrifted finds. Antiques are used as my staples in my dcor to remain on a budget. I will often upcycle pieces with paint to make them new again. I enjoy DIYs

  1. I love acorns too! At our last house we had two trees and this time of year you had to be careful walking underneath them.
I would love to be entered in your draw to win the book!

  2. Love all your fall acorns. I too love those little things. Nothing says fall like they do dropping from the trees. Swooning over just the cover alone on this fabulous book.
I would love a copy so thank you for the chance.

  3. You accidentally bought two copies? Oh my goodness, yes I would love to have that book. Decorating books are a huge weakness for me.

Now as for the acorns, we had trees that rained acorns when we lived in Oklahoma. I always think of that saying, “Mighty oaks from little acorns grow.” Isn’t that thought just so perfect for so many things in life including trees?

Moving to a safer more manageable place was the right thing to do. I’m glad your BFF is still close by. 🙂

  4. Tell you the truth Stacey, my husband and I can’t figure it out. The first book came. I read it and two weeks later another one came from Amazon. Went to my account and no return ability was there.

So I figured it is still in plastic so do a giveaway. It’s one of the best I have read in a long time. Photos are beautiful and information fantastic.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your week

  5. I don’t even know how I wound up with a second issue. It’s bizzare.

Super book. Was hoping maybe this would also give my blog a lifeline. Now that I am doing better I want to get back to it, say a prayer

  6. How sweet of your friend to help you out and collect acorns for you. They do speak of autumn. I don’t know if you are willing to send the book to Canada, but it looks like a lovely publication, so throw my hat in the ring.
I’m glad you are feeling better. MS is terrible.

  7. Oh, gosh…just the cover of the book takes my breath away. Such a sweet and generous giveaway. Thanks so much for a chance to win. I follow you on IG,Pinterest but I need to go follow you on FB

  8. lovely decor and thank you for the giveaway opportunity too. I’m on my way to your Instagram, I’m pretty sure I already follow ( wink). Hugs
P.S> have you entered my newest giveaway yet?

  9. Acorns are a favorite of mine except when they get dropped on my head. LOL I would love to win.

    XO Laura

  10. So weird! I just left you a long comment and it disappeared! Anyway, what I basically said is that this post stirred a firestorm of childhood memories for me. In the Fall I would climb the hill behind our house to the spot where there were two old oak trees. I had an old cigar box and I would spend hours finding the perfect acorns for my stash. I truly believed that tree fairies used the caps as saucers and bowls so always left those. lol I think I believed that until I was probably 12 or so. I also believed in leprechauns and banshees as a lot of the old folks in the mountains did. lol

Also, throw my name in the hat for the book. I splurged on the French Country Cottage one and dasn’t order another….lol….The old boy is on a “do you need to buy books” kick. lol So—thanks for tossing my name in.

Have a wonderful week! It’s a busy one here and rainy every day to boot—ugh…xo Diana

  11. Would love to be the lucky winner of this beautiful new book. Simple classic provincial country decor is always a favorite. The riot of autumnal colors we enjoy in New Hampshire always amazes me and is my favorite time of year. The contrast of the brilliant leaves and our everpresent stone walls sprinkled with fallen acorns simply beautiful.
Hope to be the lucky winner but, if not, I plan to purchase along with suggesting to our local town library as a book to have in their collection.

  12. Thanks Shirley. I noticed. Somehow I received an extra copy from Amazon. What to do, no one I know enjoys decorating like I do. Decision, giveaway to someone that will love this book as much as I did

  13. I would love to win your book – love her style.

I had no idea that acorns were baked and then coated with polyurethane. But then again, I don’t see acorns that often.

  14. Hi Cindy, Fall is beautiful at your home. Love your acorns. Great giveaway and this looks like a wonderful book for inspiration. I’d love to add this to my collection. I’m still away but heading home in a few days. Happy October sweet friend. xo

  15. Thanks so much Celeste. When you receive another issue and aren’t sure why and how, pay it forward.

    Loved it, a beauty
Enjoy and good luck my dear friend

  16. Me too and the book is amazing.

I came up with the polyurethane. I wanted to have these for a long time. It’s memories for us besides the fact that I love them. I can’t wait to get something so little out of the basement. It’s been four years and still in great shape.

Good luck in the giveaway. My husband is picking the name out his baseball hat

  17. So happy I have found you. ❤️ Your blog and following you now on Instagram. I too love the acorns and look forward to knowing you better. I would judy love to be a winner of the book. I am a decorator book lover.
