Limelights

My limelight Hydrangea are going wild this year.  I read a local article that said this year Hydrangea are amazing.

We planted Everlastings in the front, sixteen to be exact the first spring we were here.  I spoke to many people I and everyone said they are great and so easy to grow.

Well, I have to say I am not a happy camper.  Not ONE bloom since the first  year we planted them.

Our plan, to use Holly Tone this fall and next early spring and pray something changes.  If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate any advice.

For now, enjoy this amazing display.  The flowers are enormous and boy does it smell good.

I placed them on a wine barrel from Italy and used my French Country Cottage book that arrived at the perfect time, yesterday.  I haven’t looked inside yet, things have been busy.

Before I placed them in this jar  from Home Goods, I made sure all the bugs were out of the flowers.   I then recut the stems and dipped them in Alum to keep them lasting as long as possible.

I chose to place an antique crown and added a mercury glass votive holder I bought from Pottery Barn on antique saucers from my grandmothers tea collections.  Both of my grandmothers collected antique tea cups and I feel lucky to have them to use in our home.

I am in love with the color of the mercury glass votive and I am planning to use this color in our great room, in fact I am kind of crushing on the color.  I also ordered a copper color and the fun thing is they are all different in their style.  Buying them with a 20%  discount plus free shipping was a bonus.

Some may notice the chairs look different in this room and are in a new spot.  Yes, we bought new furniture for our great room.  I asked John when we were building the house if  we could get new furniture and he said let’s live here for a few years and then we will make the purchase.  Three years felt like forever but it gave me time to think about what I really wanted to look for, it’s not like purchasing a sweater and changing your mind.  I will show you the new look as I mentioned in my last post.

It will be fun posting the other changes I made besides the ceiling.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

  3. Yes, your limelights are gorgeous! We planted some this year and they are doing great too. I leave them in the jar until they dry on the stems. They are just as vividly green dry as they were when they were alive and well. Glad yours are doing well.

Your Bergere chairs are so pretty. I’ve always wanted one of those but it hasn’t happened yet. 🙂

  4. Your limelights are so beautiful! I love any type of hydrangeas, but these are spectacular. I just bought an Annabelle this year, and the color is a soft lime green too. It’s always exciting when our flowers do well, especially in the summer heat, isn’t it? I’ve really enjoyed reading this post, and the chairs are beautiful!

  5. The limelights are beautiful, and look great in that vase! They dry really nicely, too. I don’t have any but a neighbor does, and in winter, when the dried hydrangea falls off into the street, or blows into my backyard, I take it! I’ve got so many now, I don’t know what to do with them. My Endless Summer hydrangeas only did so-so this year.
