Hey everyone, the weather just doesn’t want to make its move to fall yet in NJ. It better hurry up, this humid weather has gotten on my last nerve.
So, what’s been up, well, some large projects have finally gotten done. I’ll be sharing those very, very soon.
In the meantime, let me share something I did work on recently. Some may remember this finial that I changed below.
Well, it wasn’t working for me. Too flat, not enough character. So what’s a girl to do?? Grab a small bucket of spackle. That’s right spackle and what was my plan, here it is.
Add it in various spots to give some character and variation. Some here and here and,
Here, what next you may ask, well some layers of paint. Chalk paint that is, in a mix of colors. Chateau Grey, Graphite, Chocolate and Old Ochre. After adding these colors one at a time I let them dry well in between coats.
Next stop, a sanding sponge, 100 grit and sanding began especially on the spackled areas.
What are the results, well, here it is.
And here,
Some more goodness,
Notice the tip of the bird finial? I have had this for a long time and decided it needed a change to blend with the finials I was planning to place it with in the dining room. It went from this,
To this, just a wash of Graphite ASCP and a tad of very light sanding in the right places.
Minor work, super change.
This finial, I did the same process as the first minus the spackle. Amazing what paint and some time can do isn’t it?
More angels and close-ups
So what do you all think? I’m very pleased.
More soon and some fall touches added too. Have a great start to t he week.

Thanks so much Mary Alice. If I can’t get out to often for some character, I’ll make some myself
Just beautiful, Cindy! Your spackle and paint treatment really added so much depth and dimension to the finials. Love the cute bird, too. I think I could use some spackling to fill in the wrinkles on my face:)
Thanks Donna
