I hope everyone is doing well and many of you are at the Haven Conference. Can’t wait to read all about the conference.
As some of you know my hunt for old items is limited to me searching Etsy. I have been finding some great shops, there are many out there, it’s amazing. These pieces I acquired lead to a change in my dining room for a fresh centerpiece. Let’s take a look.
First off, I forgot I purchased these bird cages from Michael’s while living at Audrey’s while our home was being built so…..when I remembered I knew I didn’t want to leave them glittered silver. I wanted something to blend more with our décor.
The result, spray them with Krylon chalk paint. I found some at JoAnne’s but needed to order them online since the store in our area didn’t have the color I wanted. I am pleased with the change.
What I liked about the look, I got, was you can still see the raised glitter underneath the paint to give it an aged affect.
Now, on to the finds, well I was searching for a doorknob. For some reason I am a lover of old doorknobs and low and behold I found one. It is from Etsy and is from France. While looking at the items in this shop I also noticed a stack of old French small books. This was another item I was having in mind but didn’t think that would be an easy find. Well, I’m happy I was wrong and grabbed them as well.
I used my wire bird cloche to show off the books and the large finial along with some gold dried Hydrangea. These pictures were taken at different times of the day to show how the sun changes with the room.
Another piece I have had for years was this old doormat we purchased many years ago on one of our trips to Peddler’s Village. This was a very frequent place for us to visit. I miss that I can’t make the walk there anymore due to my MS, but what can you do, things happen.
These are super close-ups of the door knob. Isn’t she a beauty? I snagged this in the afternoon and thought the sunlight was a pretty addition.
Doesn’t this door mat make a beautiful base to the centerpiece? I thought the scroll work of the iron blended nicely with the metal lace on the birdcages.
I had some dried Hydrangea that I purchased and added them to the mix. I chose to use a medium size French finial. I found this and the large one at craft fairs years ago. I also placed a bird glass piece inside. I was told when I purchased the finials they were from old gates, etc.
The small bird cage has dried Hydrangea with a few pieces of my grandmothers silver. I tried to get a good picture but it was difficult. The pieces show up much better in person, sorry.
The result, is a light fresh centerpiece for the warmer months. I’m very pleased and still swooning over my purchases.
I hope you have enjoyed my take on using treasures that I adore. I am adding many things French to my collections. Will be a slow process but that is half the fun of collecting, right? So my hunts on Etsy will continue.

You mean for once I’m not the one behind the eight ball with something new, LOL? I’m usually one-step behind. It’s hard to find right now. The only place I can get it by us is JoAnn’s. It is really cool.
