Who can think about going out in the humidity and heat we had in New Jersey over the weekend.
So, I decided to have my father and stepmom over for an impromptu and casual steak dinner. It was a very nice afternoon and I knew that the puppies; Peanut and Reeses just love them so much and get so excited when Grandpa and Grandma are here to visit that it would be a good treat for all.
They got lots of hugs and kisses and belly rubs. My puppies love bell rubs.
When I was thinking about setting the table, I decided that I would take the sunflowers that John got me over the weekend and cut them down and put them in some small glasses. These we placed on the table at each place setting, to give everyone their own bit of indoor sunshine. I put some under my cloche after we cleared the table, so I’ll have them for the rest of the week!
I also used chargers I got from JCPenney a while back and used my Chantecleir Rooster dishes, (which they don’t make anymore and since I love them I am glad I bought 12). I tried to make this impromptu but as festive and full of sunshine as I could.
For dessert I decided to make my quick ice cream cake the night before. I figured it was so hot and we would enjoy this for dessert.
I just use a boxed devil’s food cake mix with vanilla and caramel ice cream. I made the cake from the directions on the back as usual.
To assemble the cake, I first put one layer of the cake and push it in the bottom of the pan (a 9 inch spring form) and then cover it with a decent layer of ice cream. Then I take the second layer cake and press that into the a pan and put another layer of ice cream on top and then let it setup in the freezer for the overnight hours. In the morning, I chop some semi-sweet chocolate and sprinkle that on top for some added goodness, LOL.
Everyone had a good time and laughs and Peanut and Reeses especially enjoyed themselves.
