You may have noticed in my great room reveal last night a yellow table in the corner. We totally redid a this one a few years back now and I wanted to highlight this little vignette as it contains a few items that I didn’t have room to discuss in the reveal post.
Anyway, it used to be a country green table with straight legs and a drawer. I try to repurpose as much as I can, so we changed out the legs and took the drawer out since it was shallow and didn’t store much inside. We added plywood to the front with appliques and then I painted it black and rubbed wax from a candle (a trick I learned from HGTV) on the black paint and used the same color that is on the walls (Mannered Gold) and then sanded areas where I put the wax so the black paint would pop through here and there. I then used a raw umber glaze to age the piece and I painted the appliques with gold metallic paint and aged them as well.
I love the vignette on this table; the pear I purchased from Ballard years ago, the books are from Home Goods and the artichoke finial is from Home Goods as well.
The picture above the table I did a long-time ago. We used a good grade of plywood for the base and decoupaged a print I purchased from www.art.com to it. Art.com has a fantastic selection. John then cut molding to put around the piece to give it a finished look. I just love this whole vignette, it adds some life to an otherwise dead corner and brings some elegance in as well.
