I hope everyone is well on this fine Monday; this is the beginning of our Kitchen makeover.
This room has had a huge transformation as you can see from the photographs taken at our housewarming party over 15 years ago. A few years ago we knew it was time for an update.
We used to have a tile backsplash, black appliances and light oak cabinets with shiny brass hardware.
I wanted to update things and knew that we could do a new finish on the cabinets, change out hardware, appliances and certain other things and keep within a budget; all with a limited amount of mess and disruption that would accompany a full kitchen redo.
I made the decision to darken the cabinets, which was a three-week process and added oil rubbed bronze hardware, I had to get rid of the brass knobs.
I changed the backsplash from tile to a plaster effect which I will speak about in another more detailed post. John and I decided to do these changes ourselves, not only because we enjoy the process but it keeps us on a budget.
The light fixtures over our island (post coming soon) and table were very American country. You’ll notice in the after picture a ceiling medallion, which I painted and fauxed to match our new fixture.
The curtains have changed as well as you can tell from the before picture and went from country to a French country plaid which I purchased from www.countrycurtains.com
