Hello…I hope the weekend was good for all.
This weekend, even though it’s still hot and humid here in NJ, I decided that I had to finally do the “cheap” update of my fireplace doors that I’ve put off for the past 2 years or so.
As you can see, the fireplace doors (we have wood burning in family room and gas in the living room) had the 90′s brass (I think this is the last of the polished brass in the whole house!) the frames holding the glass and some bland wood handles. Not to mention the family room firebox was a bit “used” lol.
I decided to take some high heat matte black paint and update the outside of the family room firebox. I them took some high heat matte spray paint and did a coat on the brass frames for both sets of doors. While I was at it, I updated the door handles in both the living room and family room to more French rustic inspired designs
This low-budget update, really gives both fire places a new look and we’re ready for the cold weather and some nice fires. Now where are those marshmallows? LOL

Looks great! It’s true, how brass is such an outdated feature now!
I had to get rid of it and it imakes such huge difference.
What a great update. I love that high heat paint – perfect for updating things like this. And the new handles make all the difference. Nice way to spend a day.
Thank you. It was an easy update with big impact.
Great update, good to know about the high heat paint.
It is perfect for these kinds of projects, Just some paint and huge difference.

Awesome transformation, so much better! I pulled off the brass doors from one of my fireplaces about five years ago and replaced it with a standing screen…it was an instant update. Great job.
I know this little bit of work has huge impact. Thanks.

SO much better!! I did this once and found that the paint scratched tight off very easily while cleaning, etc. Have you tested that yet? Just curious because I used a different brand
I sanded and primed first so I am hoping that was enough to keep on there for a llongtime.

that is such an easy project and it looks really great, cynthia! we painted our old outdoor the same way last year:)
Wow…what a great difference it made…really love it!!
Just a little paint had a huge impact. So glad I finally did it.
Oh, my goodness! What a difference a little high heat paint and new handles will do! Nice makeover, for sure.
It made such a huge difference. Thank you very much.
Cynthia
hello! Love the changes – it looks elegant! Love that spray paint! Have a wonderful week,
kathy
Looks great! The updated handles and paint really make a difference!
Came over from Barbe’s. You just saved me a ton of money. I have an odd-shaped firebox and wanted to change out the antique brass firescreen. It would take a custom order and you do not want to know the cost. So now I will just mosey over to the paint store and change it myself!
I am glad I did this it looks so great. Just cans of paint. High Heat paint.
Found you via Debbie Doo’s link party! And glad that I did: we have similar brass on our gas fireplace – the lovely builder’s grade stuff – and I can’t stand it. Thanks for sharing what a difference covering it up makes!
Thnks so much you should try it out! I hope you will folow Cloches and Lavender via Linky.
I’m following you in my blog reader… At some point I’ve got to sign up with Linky, but haven’t done so yet.
ok great!
Bye, bye, brass! Looks fantastic! Thank you for sharing this at my Make it Pretty Monday party at The Dedicated House. Hope to see your prettiness again on Monday. Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse
Be careful after you have used the fireplace, the metal handles will burn your hands. Learned the hard way why wood handles are used on these doors.
We never burn fires with the diirs closed.
