Our master bath was built in 1994 before it was popular to have double vanities and to have travertine tile installed. My question was; how could we update the bathroom without doing a total gut job?

Hello everyone, I hope all is well and everyone is getting ready for the long weekend.

I wanted something to put my candles on when I burn them and I just didn’t want any old candle holder. I saw this old, aged pillar and thought to myself, perfect! I purchased it and I loved the aged white quality for my candles.

Hello everyone. I hope your week is going well.

These are 2 pieces I enjoy having in my great room. I keep them together on one of the end tables.

An Urn with Moss

The urn has had a long life in our home; it used to have a moss topiary in it. When it faded I decided throw the topiary away but keep this beautiful almost alabaster looking urn.

It sat around for a few years and then I thought of putting it in the great room and filled it with moss balls from Pottery Barn. I felt as if It took me forever to decide what to put inside of the urn but for now I am set.

A Fleur de lis

I love this Fleur di Lis. It’s rustic but yet has a charm about it and I enjoy having items such as this in our home.

The two combined make for an intersting placement.

Gesso – The Love of Aged French Pots

Now that I took the chance and time learning the transfer process on the small pots with lavender, I figured I would try my hand at some larger pots I had in the garage.

I used the same technique – Gesso and a gray wash base coat and then applied the ink jet transfers I printed from Graphics Fairy and it worked out really well on these four additional pots.

I will use these four pots – two larger pots (they are 12 inches high) and two medium pots (they are 8 inches high) to display some of my fall items, whether it be outside with mums or inside with pumpkins or gourds with some fall hay.

I also plan on using these pots for many displays through the year, the Christmas Holidays, spring, winter and fall (I will show my fall thouches in a week or two). They add such charm and French flair that is prevalent throughout our home and is becoming more prevalent as the years go on.

Peanut and Reeses Have A Sleepover

Hi!

Wanted to share a few shots of our little sleepover with cousins Bend and Sprout.

When we first met Bend and Sprout as puppies, they inspired us to get Peanut and Reeses (well actually their mommy Audrey talked me into it ). Since we brought them home, they have always had a special relationship with Bend and Sprout…especially our weekly Movie Night couch mash-ups LOL. Puppies everywhere (along with Audrey’s older statesman Wolfie who is also a Doxie at 15, whom Peanut has a thing for lol!)

This night they came over our place and fun was had by all, well, until they all wanted to cram into the same “wally bed” LOL

Donning Some Shades

Hello,

It’s been a little while since we did something the dining room (http://clochesandlavender.com/2012/06/02/estate-sale-find/), but I love everything so much, I’m not ready to make any major changes. So, I decided to make a quick and inexpensive change to our chandelier. I looked online and found some nice little shades in a champagne silk. I think it adds a little more elegance and formality.

Purchasing the shades allows me to leave them on for a while and take them off for a different look (such as Christmas) at times.

Happy Saturday, hope you’re enjoying the weekend.

Lavender has a beautiful scent and can be very relaxing. This week I tried a new project that involved some basic terra-cotta pots, lavender, paint, printed images and mod podge. I wanted to re-create a pot I recently saw in Pottery Barn catalog and online and realized I could make it myself but with a twist. They just used a plain terracotta pot, I wanted to do a transfer image on a painted pot.

For this project (I know that I may be a little behind some of the others in blogland) I got some inspiration from http://heavens-walk.blogspot.com/ and http://withadashofcolor.blogspot.com/ I tried Gesso for the first time on the outside of the pots and then added some grey paint as a light wash to give the white an aged effect.

Having gotten the transfer part down (after 2 tries lol) I needed to add the additional touch, so I placed a bunch of lavender and green Spanish moss in each pot. Now I had a touch of lavender…being Cloches and Lavender and all!

In the end, I hope you like the result, they may have even turned out better than PB! I liked them so much that I decided to keep one for myself and am giving one to my stepmom today for her birthday.

In the few final pictures of the finished pots, I added a little scene with one of my mercury glass birds along with another of my heirloom teacups.

Two Wonderful Gifts

Two years ago we were lucky enough to receive two wonderful gifts, Peanut and Reeses. They have brought our household so much love, laughter and life.

They are like our children and yes, they are spoiled. We don’t care though, as they have been such great puppies since we brought them home at 10 weeks old. It is hard work having two at once especially in the beginning, but they are inseparable and really seem to have a deep affection for each other.

They keep me on my toes, so to speak, throughout the day.

Ballard Estate Sale Bargain

Hello everyone I hope that you are having a good week!

I remember the day I saw this vase at Ballard Designs and it was just too much money for me to spend on this decorative item. I always look at the estate sale on Ballard.com and this vase happened to be on sale and I snatched one up.

Lucky Find on Ballard Estate Sale

It has taken up residency in our living room and now it is filled with beautiful sunflowers. During the Christmas Holidays, I put twigs that have sparkles and little LED lights on them in it. It is quite beautiful.

Mom’s Favorite Tea Cup

This tea cup is another very special cup because my Great Uncle bought this for my mother on one of his business trips to England many years ago.

This was my mothers favorite out of all of the cups she owned. She loved the boldness of the colors and she really like the pattern. Not to mention it was from her favorite uncle. I’m happy that she left me so many wonderful cups that I can share with you now and then.
