Happy Wednesday…
Well John got busy over the long weekend and with the help of some hardworking college students, we finally got most of the mulch done!
We basically use the mulch to outline our property and create borders around our various garden beds (boxwood are prevalent as are moonbeam coreopsis (will bloom soon and I’ll show you an update!) since they are not preferred by deer and groundhogs). In the front we use it to accent the paths of small red stones that we put into our ”walking garden” area in front of the house. We use the red stones as a border along our driveway as well, which makes a nice compliment to the black and green tones of the mulch and grass areas and the rock walls.
I hope you like some of the shots of the finished areas.

Hello everyone this has been a very busy day!!
I decided to do just a quick post on my new Mora Clock!!!
I purchased another new piece for the great room, but I have been holding this one for a bit since I knew the floor was getting done. I have been so excited since I have received this clock from Maison Decor.
Amy did such a wonderful job on my clock. The finish and color are just as I hoped and it looks perfect on the wall with my Sherwin Williams Mannered Gold wall color.
It really makes a statement in the room and will be a wonderful compliment to the other items when finally in place. Hopefully by the end of the week.
Amy is such a talent with paint as many of us know.

Hello,
Hope you are having a great Memorial Day weekend (thanks to those that we honor this weekend).
As you know, I just finished having my great room floor redone and it’s almost time to start putting things back. So I figured it would be a good time to revisit some of my accent pieces and other things about the room.
So, while running some errands yesterday, I passed through a nice country area up here in NJ and saw a little fair…I had to stop and poke around.
I’ve been looking for an alternative to keep some firewood near the hearth in the great room without having the wood show LOL. Then when I saw this trunk with the wood and metal accents and old leather handles still intact, I figured what a great way to have a nice accent piece that is also very functional. It was a bargain as well, since it was later in the day I got it for $100.00 they took a good chunk off the price.
When we got it home, we put some wood in it and it seems that it will hold enough for a nice long fire and when we’re not using the fireplace, it closes up nicely and adds some charm to an otherwise empty corner.
Once everything is back in place, I’ll show you where it went and how it looks in the room.
In the meantime, enjoy the rest of the long weekend.

Hello everyone,
This has been a crazy week! We got our great room floor done this week and everything is all over the place. I haven’t gotten any projects done which is driving me crazy.
I had to be out of the house for the week and my poor puppies are so tired and confused. They have been shuffled back and forth with me to my girlfriends house.
Right now we are waiting for the floor to cure and then we can put everything back. I am trying to look at this as an adventure and an opportunity to move some things around (and maybe pick up some new inspired finds – don’t tell my husband LOL)
When we built the house in the mid 90′s we went with a clear finish over the oak. This time I went with a more French inspired walnut stain and a matte finish.

Hi!
I decided to do just a quick post tonight because we are in the midst of getting ready to have our great room wood floor refinished, so everything on the lower level of our house is turned upside down.
So, I have a hallway upstairs that can be seen from the foyer, you may remember my post about the green table I have up there. Well, I can’t have a table in the hallway, without having some nice things on the wall to go along with it. So today I decided to tell you about them.
One is in a re-purposed frame from an old painting. Originally, it was oak; I painted it gold and then dry brushed with metallic silver paint. I then ordered some fabric swatches and decided on the script fabric that is currently in the frame. It offers a nice contrast to the frame, the wall and the other items.
The metal piece next the fabric picture is piece I found at Home Goods and the two little prints on the other side I had, and decided to use them to finish off the space.

Hi everyone!
So happy the weekend is here. Should be a nice weekend here in NJ.
Well, we got our mulch supplies delivered last week and John has gotten a good start. We’ll have some help this week luckily, as a local hard-working college student will help quite a bit, as it’s a bit much for once person.
John gets it delivered in bags (we use black cedar) since it’s easier to manage and keep around during the process as opposed to a large truckload dumped out front.
We also use small red stones as a border along the driveway and as paths in our main front garden.
All in all it’s about 650 (3 cubic feet each) bags of mulch and over 150 bags of stones. He certainly gets a workout.
Here are some progress photos and I’ll follow-up when we’re (well when he’s) done lol.

This may seem a little odd to some but I had to share a picture of my doorbell. I love our doorbell.
John actually mounted it on a leftover piece of wood trim for me and we painted it to match our moldings on the house (Baby Turtle by Benjamin Moore).
I purchased the doorbell a while ago from the internet and I got it on sale which always makes things better, right. When it came I didn’t realize it would be that big but I love the presence it gives to our front entrance and it compliments our French monogrammed doormat.

Have you ever ordered something and forgotten all about it and then when it comes it is so exciting? Well, that happened with this pillow that I ordered from Etsy.
It took a while getting here and I did really forget that I ordered the pillow.
I thought it would look good as a new French addition to our living room at the desk that John and I made a long time ago. I think it just adds that touch.

John and I were shopping in an area just over the border into Pennsylvania and we were in a small store that had a bunch of salvaged iron pieces inside. We thought no; they will be too expensive, and when we went inside they were really a bargain. I thought that this piece would make a nice addition to our upstairs hallway.
We looked at many of them and decided on this piece and thought it would be perfect. It fits in this spot so well it seems it was made for this area.
