Hello Again, Thank you for visiting me!
Believe it or not, I’ve had this cabinet for over 20 years now and it’s been through a few “face lifts”. The most recent was a few years back when I painted it black and stenciled it. Recently I was thinking, time for a new look, and as I was wondering what I could do to make a change when it hit me; let’s take a stab at a leafing.
I decided that I would go with Silver Leaf, and although I had not done leafing before, I figured, let’s go for it. Thinking, how hard could it be? I ordered the silver leaf and the adhesive over the internet.
I started this past Saturday morning and to my surprise, actually finished it in one day. It was a long day, granted, but I finished. Once the silver leaf was applied, I lightly sanded it with a 320 grit sanding sponge to reduce the sheen a bit.
Sunday morning, after some coffee, I decided it still needed something so I brushed on a light coat of Raw Umber glaze and did a light wash over the whole cabinet. Then I let it dry. I was very happy with the result. The vignette on top of all different finials I have collected over the years, back dropped with some black and white photographic prints. More on my home office in future posts.

very nice
Thank you for the compliment.
A beautiful finish. Thanks for visiting and commenting today, so I could find you. Have a great day. Mona
Thank so much for visiting me. There i so much more to come.
I love the shadowed images in the background of your site.
The finish on the cabinet is beautiful, and I covet your finial collection.
Thanks for taking the time to stop by I appreciate the nice comment
My first experience with silver leaf was a DISASTER and I’m terrified of it! Yours looks great though!
Stacy
I have to admit it is messy to get all the silver leaf off but don’t be afraid of it I know you of all people could do it.
You have to teach me how to do that!!!!! Please!!!!!
so pretty and I love seeing the detail still shine through! Isn’t it fun that you can keep changing it and changing it?!! I love your finials too.
Thank your so much for taking the time to visit. I love doing projects such as this one.
What a great looking piece. Thanks so much for sharing it with my newbie party.
Thank you it took a lot of time but the finished product was worth it.
What a nice change! It looks great and I like the burnt umber showing through. I have never tried silver leaf… I’m currently spray painting a dresser I have metallic – it’s probably faster in terms of the actual “work” but I have to wait and wait for a nice day so it’s taking forever!!
Thank you very much it was alot of and hard work but fun at the same time. Thanks for visiting my blog. Make sure to come back and see new things I have in store for posting.
PS – found you via the newbie party… like your blog!!
Would love you to stop by sometime for a visit!
